Unit 2: Blogging for Beginners

Blogging is something that a part of me has always wanted to try. I loved the idea of traveling around the world and writing about my experiences to an audience however I was scared that I wouldn’t do it right. Little did I know that there truly isn’t a wrong way to blog nowadays, so now I am genuinely excited to learn more about this type of media. Something I definitely want to explore is making my blog more aesthetic to look at and play with the different types of layout. The creative side of me has always been a little difficult to unlock, but when it does I am almost always very happy with the outcome. Even though the “pretty” part of blogging stresses me out a little bit, writing is something that has always relaxed me. While the things I write will probably never be at the level at J.K. Rowling, it makes me happy.

In a sense, I wanted to take this course to make myself happy. That sounds kind of stupid but when I heard about this course, I knew I wanted to take it. While I have never taken an online course before, I love the idea of doing things on my own time. It takes a lot of stress off and I love the communications field as a whole so I figured, why the heck not?

In Unit 2, we learned about media literacy. Admittedly, I had no idea how to define that. After reading chapter 2 in my textbook, I was able to find out that media literacy is a set of perspectives that we actively use to expose ourselves to the media and interpret the meaning of the messages we encounter. While there are both good and bad sides to technology expanding, I’m actually looking forward to see how much it can change. Yes- people are becoming overly dependent on the media but there is no way to stop that. I pretty biased, considering that I am an avid social media user, but I firmly believe that it is important to adapt to the world as it changes.
